I, I wish I could swim Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim Though nothing Nothing will keep us together We can beat them, for ever and ever Oh we can be Heroes Just for one day I, I will be king And you, you will be queen Though nothing will drive them away We can be Heroes, just for one day We can be us, just for one day I, I can remember Standing, by the wall And the guns shot above our heads And we kissed As though nothing could fall And the shame was on the other side Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever Then we could be Heroes Just for one day We can be Heroes We can be Heroes We're nothing, and nothing will help us Maybe we're lying Then you better not stay But we could be safer Just for one day We can be Heroes We can be Heroes We can be Heroes We can be Heroes

about

The EP was released on all major download/streaming sites on January 6th 2017.

THE RECORDING...
I recorded my interpretation of David Bowie’s awesome track “Heroes” in Autumn/Fall 2015. A crazy idea to tackle such an iconic song? Maybe, but I wanted to apply my own sound to one of my favourite tracks...

I added orchestration at the suggestion of the Music Supervisor at a UK TV broadcaster. When they were finished (by Ed) I kept listening to the strings on it’s own. ‘’We should do a mix of this with the strings on top” I said to my producer Phil. So we did and we were delighted at the result!

AND THEN...
...David Bowie died. I, along with many others, experienced a great sense of loss.

Just a week later we were performing the ‘Strings’ version of Heroes at Union Chapel for the ‘Starman: A Celebration of David Bowie’ event. There were many famous faces on stage and behind the scenes and I was proud to perform at the end of the 1st half to a sell out crowd, live on YouTube.

Subsequently I met Wendy, organiser of the ‘Bowie’s Beckenham Oddity’ Festival in August to help save the Bandstand (In Beckenham) that David played on (immortalised on his track ‘Memory of a Free Festival') and where he sat on the steps and wrote the beginnings of ‘Life On Mars’. A fantastically worthy cause. Again we performed the ’Strings’ version as part of our set. On the same slab of concrete, under the same Bandstand roof and to the same vista and trees as did Mr B in 1969... it was mind blowing!

So here is my version of the song in it’s three forms. An edited version of the full version for radio play (fingers crossed!) and my ‘melancholic’ orchestral version.

THE COVER STORY...
The cover as you'll have noticed is much older than the recording! It hails from my days of Art Directing photo shoots. This one was for a DIY magazine by Steve Lyne and, during a break, I was simply sitting in and fiddling around with the shutter cable to create what we now call a 'selfie'!

It was one frame on a polaroid but I always thought it had a sense of Bowie's original 'Heroes' cover shoot. Especially when we removed the colour and went black and white.

Enjoy and please share in any and every way you see fit!
